The team collected 4 technical fouls and Josh Howard tackled Portland's Joel Przybilla, trash talked, and was ejected from the game. Dirk was in foul trouble. The team scored only 18 points in the quarter.

In the meantime Josh Howard has stepped up to lead the Mavericks in scoring at 22 points. History shows that when Howard hits the 20-point mark, the Mavs are nearly unbeatable. However, now that he’s scoring more, can that trend continue? If so, perhaps it’s possible Dallas has another MVP candidate on its roster.

The good news is Josh Howard has continued to show up every game to play like a superstar and the mavs are playing good overall defense. The bad news, Dirk Nowitzki. Seven points for the leader of the team and unguardable seven footer? Dirk I know you are reading this and I’m a huge fan, but get it together buddy take more shots and at least attempt a three pointer! Dirk went 2-8 shooting against New Orleans and turned the ball over three times. He was a complete non-factor in the game.

The only really bright star in Dallas is Josh Howard, who is playing out of his mind lately averaging 7 rebounds and 26 points over the last five games and leading the team in scoring.
However Mavericks faithful, It is way too early to start doubting Avery Johnson, Dirk Nowitzki and the mavs just yet. Remember Jason Terry always brings the A-game from the bench and this is a veteran squad that may finally be saving their best play for the right time of the season. Things may get worse before they get better, with New Orleans, at Houston, and Phoenix all this week. But I fully expect to see vast improvement in the next few weeks, Avery Johnson is a motivator worthy of Tony Robbins’ envy. I give you my guarantee that Golden State will not only, not make the playoffs and be the only team in the NBA to have the Mavericks number and keep them from the sweet nectar of World Champion victory, but they will also still have the ugliest team in the NBA.
