Everything about this video and the way it's been handled by Howard and the Mavs is disheartening. In case you haven't seen the video, Howard is shown mugging with other participants before a charity flag football game and says, "The Star-Spangled Banner' is going on right now. I don't even celebrate that [expletive]. I'm black." Then he mumbles something incoherent about "Obama." The videographer moves on to other participants and the whole episode only lasts 10 seconds or so.

So much has been working well for the Mavs over the last few games. I wanted to look at what the Mavericks have changed from last year. I think that most of the Mavericks’ mistakes went overlooked and unfixed last year because they were always winning. It is tough to criticize the team in the midst of a winning streak, but when you are winning little mistakes are ignored and are allowed to slide because you are winning. The mistakes I am referring to in regards to last year’s team is the inside game. The main difference I have seen this year in the

The Dallas Mavericks have opened the season 16-9. By comparison, the Mavs didn’t lose their ninth game until January 25th last season. And that was after starting out 0-4.
The most glaring reason for this drop off is a lack of production from reigning MVP, Dirk Nowitzki. On the surface Dirk’s numbers (21.4 pts, 8.3 rebs, 3.8 asts) aren’t bad. But in actuality, Nowitzki’s game doesn’t pack the same punch it has over the past several seasons.

The Mavs have lost 5 of their last 5 and 9 games total this season. Mercifully, the New Orleans Hornets lost tonight as well, and the Mavericks didn’t lose any ground in the division. Friday, the Mavericks will square off against the Hornets, and as of now, the Mavericks are a half game back of them in the Southwest division and 4 games back of San Antonio, who looks like the real deal defending world champs.
